On January 28, 2018 Panera Bread issued a voluntary, precautionary recall after Listeria monocytogenes was found in samples taken from one of their cream cheese products. Out of precaution, they are recalling all 2 oz. and 8 oz. cream cheese products with an expiration date on or before April 8, 2018 sold in their U.S. stores.

The President and CEO of Panera Bread, Blaine Hurst said this regarding the recall:

“The safety of our guests and associates is paramount, therefore we are recalling all cream cheese products sold in the US with an active shelf life. We have likewise ceased all manufacturing in the associated cream cheese facility, “Only one variety of 2-oz cream cheese from a single day yielded the positive result. Our intent is to go above and beyond for our guests. You should expect nothing less from Panera.”

The FDA indicates that Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may also experience mild to severe illness from exposure.

The company has indicated that customers should discard any of the products immediately and either contact customer service Mon – Sun, 5 AM till 10 PM CST at 1 888 6 PANERA ( 1 888 6 726372 ) or visit the web address panera.custhelp.com for a full refund.
