Lake Charles Mardi Gras 2018 Food Events
The outdoor weather forecast doesn’t look very promising for the Lake Charles area during the Mardi Gras weekend, Lundi Gras and Fat Tuesday. The indoor food events listed below have you, and your hunger covered though.
World Famous Cajun Extravaganza and Gumbo Cook-off
Saturday, February 10th, more than 60 teams of amateurs and professionals will cook up pots of chicken and sausage, seafood, and wild game gumbo to be judged. The event will be held inside the Lake Charles Civic Center. Teams will start cooking the gumbo at 7:30 a.m. Judging will happen at 11:30 a.m. Gumbo will be served immediately after judging is finished. Anyone who has paid the $5 admission fee will be able to start enjoying a sample of the gumbo cooked by any of the cook-off participants until 1:30 p.m. Children under 5 get in free.
Taste de la Louisiane
This festival lets attendees get their fill sampling traditional Louisiana foods. For the $10 entry fee, you will get to fill your plate and try dishes including alligator, boudin, crawfish, king cake, étouffée and many other foods that make Louisiana well-known for our tasty cuisines. Taste de la Louisiane will be held Sunday, February 11 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
4th Annual “Dough-Nation” Fundraiser
Botsky’s Premium Hotdogs will be selling king cakes Saturday, February 10 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Proceeds from the king cake sales will benefit The Leadership Center for Youth, a division of Family & Youth. King cakes can be purchased for $25 each.
Back Porch Lundi Gras
Sloppy’s Downtown will have crawfish, king cake and live music by Nathan Horton, Nee de Tradition, and Sillie Nelson. The food and entertainment will be from 3 p.m. till close for Lundi Gras on Monday, February 12.
